Spring Showcase and how you can help continue David's Legacy!

In 1979, David Shelton committed his life to serving the Lord by using his dramatic gifting to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the invitation of David’s longtime friend Steve Thomas, what began with a mime performance for a youth group, followed a week later by a song during the offering and “The Apostle Peter” characterization a few months later, David Shelton Ministries was born.  David traveled for 25 years full time, with his repertoire growing to over 25 different presentations ranging from whole books of the Bible to several first-person characterizations to storytelling to singing to mime and even writing a book.  In 2001, David suffered a closed head injury while on a ministry trip.  Gradually, over the next few years, David developed some memory difficulty that made it impossible for him to continue performing.  David’s legacy continues through his taped performances and through his “The Great King” as the grade 4 curriculum with The Legacy Institute’s “Relationships with Integrity.”

In late 2004 as David and I realized he would not be taking stage much longer, we sought the Lord:  What to do when “the show can’t go on?  After two years of researching the back stories behind 200 hymns for AM 630’s radio program, “Our Favorite Hymns” program, God gave us a clear vision to impart David’s decades of performance ministry experience to the next generation.  Not just learning about Drama, but centering the youth performance team around large sections of straight scripture, performed in unison with smaller ensemble pieces, music, media and movement. TRANSFORMED was born shortly thereafter with our first Drama Camp in 2006, featuring James, chapter 3 with several other scenes.  Following on the heels of camp, we launched our first weekly youth performance team, meeting in Bothell each Thursday evening.  Since then, our camps have featured the Be”act”itudes and our theme passage, Romans 12.  Our weekly teams have worked on James 2 and 4 as well. This past fall, we added another weekly youth performance team in the South end, meeting Mondays.  For our Christmas performance, we joined our North and South teams and featured Luke 2 along with two one-acts and monologues by Mary, mother of Jesus and the innkeeper’s wife. Our daughter Jessica has been a very helpful assistant director this year!

Our 2009 Spring Showcase featured seventeen students from Renton to Snohomish performing Romans 12 and several scenes, music, mime and dance. We are priviledged to have mentored over 100 students since 2005 but are now putting our resources toward re-packaging David's recorded performance - upgrading from VHS to DVD and cassette to CD!  We just re-released "Peter" on DVD and James on CD!   Click here to invest in the ongoing legacy of David Shelton's 30 year commitment to keeping Christ in the spotlight of Christian Drama.
